The English Thoroughbred

 The Pure British Blood (PSI) is a breed of equine origin from Great Britain.
British Purebreds are well-known horses for their agility and speed. This is a breed selected for gallop racing in the racecourses.

History

Officially, the modern origins of the English Pure Blood appear to date back to 1793 with the birth of the Stud Book of the Famous 50 Indigenous Marines, the Royal Mares, and three eastern stallions Byerly Turk, Darley Arabian and Godolphin Barb, who descend in line from all the modern "Purosangue da corsa", to which a fourth stallion Curwen Bay Barb can be added because he also offered a good genetic contribution; It is to be noted that these four stallions come from about one-third of the genes of the present population. From modern studies, it turns out that in fact the selection of the English racing horse has begun much earlier; From the conquest of Britain, the Romans brought East horses (especially the Berbers) to that country, which were used for racing in the Circus Maximus, from this moment on there was a continuous influx of eastern horses in England, especially during the Crusades. Through exchanges with Italy where the Palii ran from the Middle Ages. It is also true that the Royal Mares (nicknamed Hobbies) were eastern mares of different origins (Berbere, Turks, Syrian, Arab and crossbreeds between these breeds), fast, selected on the 400 m. So the origin of the English Purebred is clearly Oriental, but functional selection has made it a morphologically better horse than its ancestors.

Morphological characters

These horses have been selected, as the Anglo-Saxon name "Thoroughbred", for gallop racing: from their origins so their power, their attitude to speed rather than their physical characteristics was preferred. That is why today the breed has morphological features that are not too homogeneous, although three distinct types can be distinguished:
Gallbladder galloping

-Trowler, smaller and more picky, endowed with resistance and employed on races between 2100 and 3000 meters and beyond.
-the "sprinter", taller and elongated and very fast (1000-1400 meters);
- "intermediate", with an oblique tail, inclined shoulder and a rather short back (1500-2000 meters).

 Character and attitudes

A horse of great class, with a long and powerful action, very nervous that does not fit beginner knights; Its main aptitude is the galloping race (horse racing), but it also excels in horseback riding, especially in the Complete Contest where almost all British Purebreds are the Australian and New Zealand team riders. He is brave, trustworthy and affectionate to his master. Races of this kind of horses take place in the Ascot Racecourse in England
